Since 1979, PackSmart has striven to provide the best solutions to our customers and to deliver on our ever-present goal of “building trusted partnerships.” Almost 40 years. A company doesn’t make it to the 40-year mark by accident. No, in order to accomplish the longevity that PackSmart has, it takes more than just showing up; it takes a certain essence. Essence is defined as:

“The intrinsic nature or indispensable quality of something, especially something abstract, which determines its character.”

So, where does this essence come from? What determines that intrinsic nature - those indispensable qualities - that have allowed PackSmart to grow and evolve into a flourishing company with a bevy of loyal customers, strong relationships and the best employees around? What determines PackSmart’s character?

That would be our Core Values:

Willing to Learn

Author Anthony J. D’Angelo once wrote:

“Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow.”

A willingness to learn is engrained throughout PackSmart, and when one of us learns something, we’re all better for it. When MaryKate Munguia took the initiative and dove headfirst into a review of new training courses, her willingness to learn ultimately enhanced the training others will receive, benefiting every member of the PackSmart Team.  A willingness to learn is integral in continual improvement and understanding. In a world where technology is pushing the limits of business and industry at a record pace, taking the time to learn new things is more important than ever.

Positive & Engaging

One’s outward disposition often determines their perspective of the world; their approach to challenges. It also determines how others perceive them. Being Positive & Engaging, therefore, gives our entire organization an air of optimism, and instills our customers with confidence in the partnerships they have built with us. When Sue Mikrut took a Positive and Engaging approach to collecting a past-due invoice, she turned what could have been a relationship-damaging moment into an opportunity to strengthen that relationship. Noting the positive approach taken, and conveying appreciation for it, the customer simply stated “Thank you for staying with us.” Being Positive & Engaging turns problems into challenges; creating new opportunities.

Finds a Better Way

PackSmart is a packaging solutions provider. We don’t just sell products, we provide solutions to problems. This Core Value, Finds a Better Way, is at the heart of providing these solutions to our customers. Our founder, Don Ross, exemplified this. A customer was utilizing a carton around lawn edging. Don devised a way to mitigate the amount of corrugated being used and to have a cleaner marketable package where the end user could see the product. And oh, by the way, he was able to incorporate strapping machines and strap into their process, creating a huge net result of new business for our company at that time, and an annual savings to the customer that was into the tens of thousands of dollars.  At PackSmart, there’s always something that can be done, and we find the better ways to do it.

If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want go far, go together.

After nearly 40 years in business, it’s clear PackSmart has, indeed, gone far. And it’s been accomplished together. With collaboration comes new perspectives and ideas; perspectives and ideas that fuel innovative solutions and unlock doors to new opportunities. When Deana Colby collaborated with a vendor in order to maintain stock levels after some unexpected supply usage, she was able to have them rush shipments and push up delivery dates to prevent backorders; delivering superior customer service and ensuring that the customer was satisfied. Offering a helping hand can make the difference, in and out of the office.

Do What You Say

“Building Trusted Partnerships” is what we do. Establishing that trust with our customers is no easy feat, though. We must do what we say so that customers know they’ve got a partner in PackSmart who is equally as committed to their success as they are. Our customers have afforded us the opportunity to be part of their success; it’s critical that we hold up our end of the deal and deliver what we have promised. In order to follow through on our stated 4-hour response time guarantee, despite all of PackSmart’s service technicians being tied up, Jim Randazzo rearranged his afternoon to make sure he could get to the customer’s location to run through troubleshooting techniques and help them get back up and running. PackSmart promised a service response within 4 hours, and Jim knew how important it was to make good on it. This demonstrated how important the customer is to us, and the lengths that each individual PackSmart employee will go to help ensure our customers’ success.

Our Core Values

Each of these values directly relates to the others. Without a willingness to learn, it’d be more difficult to find better ways. Without being Positive and Engaging, we would likely be less Willing to Learn. Without a collaborative atmosphere, it would be more difficult to follow through and do what we tell our customers we will. Each of these Core Values strengthens and facilitates the others, and each of these values are critical pieces in the puzzle that makes up PackSmart’s character.
