Times are Changing

I can remember over 20 years ago, the Internet didn't exist.  Computers were just catching on and the monitors were as big as TVs!  Cell phones were something you saw once in awhile and looked like small briefcases!  People faxed or mailed their information to each other and after you left the office or went on vacation, you were out of contact.  Wow, how times have changed!

Today, for the most part, everyone has adapted.  It seems everyone now has a computer (or two!), a cell phone, e-mail and is in constant contact through e-mail or Facebook.  Technology has changed everywhere and new change is happening at an even more accelerated pace.  It has affected all of our lives, and it is necessary to adapt and keep up.  Along with information technology, all of the industries we work in have also changed at a rapid pace.  The increasing cost of labor, transportation and raw materials have made it necessary for all businesses to carefully watch their costs and look for ways to save money.  We need to re-think the ways we do things and become more efficient.

Packaging is no exception to change.  Much change has occurred in our industry as well!  With a continuous need for our customers to "go green", increase throughput, and reduce costs....it can certainly be a challenge to find the right solution.  We understand that owners and managers are busy running their businesses and rely on packaging professionals to help keep them informed to meet their needs and provide expertise and cost saving ideas.

After much review and deliberation, PackSmart is travelling down the road of implementing a new ERP system. I remember back in 1988 deciding on our first computer system and programs to begin automating our processes…from purchases, to accounts receivable (I loved those ledger one write system customer cards), to formal financial statements. How neat it was going to be getting with the times…so much has changed since then.

 

Our journey over the last 12 months had us looking at many systems initially, then there were five, then there were two, finally arriving at the key decision just a few of weeks ago. We are still needing to make numerous decisions along the way….wireless technology throughout the office, are we going to be in the “cloud”?, to the step and implementation of E-Commerce methodology for you, our customers. The end result will have us looking at numerous efficiencies and improvements with our new system that will result in improved lead times, better managed dedicated inventory, and real time communication with all of our business partners, just to name a few of the benefits of our anticipated change.

 

We have a strong Project Team in place that is truly engaged to insure nothing but success with our major initiative for 2012. We anxiously await the rollout scheduled for late summer and will look forward to serving you much more efficiently. We are hoping to not encounter any glitches along the way, but trust that you will be patient with us during this transition period. We will keep you posted, and expect that you will do the same for us!
